This week in related articles by the SunSentinel it was noted that rate payers may be expected to shell out an average of $12 additional dollars more per month in base rate charges to their local electricity provider. Expect more request by nearly all utilities across the United States as threats of Cap and Trade policy loom near as well as the increasing popularity in solar power and it’s inevitable widespread affordability. Also keep in mind that many utility providers have been on a rate freeze for many years.
The public says it may fight the utility increase requests however they may be warranted, particularly in Florida where our utility providers make much of our power with nuclear energy. Utilities with Nuclear reactors have been compensated by the Federal Government for storage of that waste and as of this year that funding will end, therefore the utility will have to foot the bill. Plus the waste storage problem is not getting any small or any safer as noted by the Miami Herald. This type of reality is bringing forth the true cost of our energy as certain subsidy is repealed making personal renewable solar energy generation more economically friendly each time our bills go up.
