House Passes Climate Change Bill

This week the US House of Representatives made history when they passed a bill to move America forward in efforts against pollution and global climate change commonly called global warming. House Bill HR 2454 or the Waxman-Markey Bill is noted as Americas first step toward a new green economy. The official name for the bill is the American Clean Energy and Security Act or ACES.

The bill barely passed through the House 219-to-212 and stands a tough fight in the Senate. The primary objective of this bill is to create Federal, nationwide policies regarding the way America produces its energy and its relationship to pollution. There are major incentives for automakers to retool their facilities and invest in higher mileage, cleaner and electric vehicles.

Another major beneficiary is the renewable energy industry and solar panel manufacturers and installers. The bill provides 3 times the incentive for utilities to help people invest in green technology such as solar power. The promotion of energy efficiency in existing homes and new construction will also qualify through documentable standards.

More info to come.
